Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is eyeing a January exit as he continues to remain on the fringes of Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Darmian made it clear in the summer that he wanted to leave and Jose Mourinho was also prepared to let him go, but the club were not happy with the offers they received.

Juventus and Napoli tabled bids for the defender and Inter were also interested, but Mourinho declined to let him as he struggled to land his own targets.

Darmian remains a coveted player in Italy and Juventus and Inter are again considering making a move in the winter window.

And according to Italian daily Tuttosport, the 28-year-old will look to earn a transfer in the January window as he is keen to play more football going forward.

Darmian has not played a single minute of football since featuring against Leicester City on the opening weekend and Diogo Dalot has leapfrogged him to become the second choice right-back to Antonio Valencia.

Mourinho has been sympathetic about Darmian’s desperation to leave Manchester United but it remains to be seen whether he allows a transfer if the club do not land any additional players in January.

The Italian’s contract expires next summer but Manchester United have the option to extend it for one more year.
