Mateusz Klich has insisted that he had to show his quality during pre-season and win his place back in the Leeds United squad.

Klich joined Leeds last year from FC Twente but a disappointing six months later he was loaned out to FC Utrecht during the January transfer window.

The midfielder returned to Leeds in the summer and he was widely expected to be moved on, but he impressed new manager Marcelo Bielsa during pre-season.

And an injury to Adam Forshaw at the start of the season meant the Pole started in the first few games and his performances helped him to nail down a spot in the starting eleven.

The midfielder also returned to the Poland squad because of his showings at Leeds and he admits that in the summer his plan was simple – to impress the new manager during pre-season.

Klich indicated that he didn’t want to give up on his career at Leeds and was determined to show his quality at Elland Road.

He told LUTV: “I just came back wanting to play games here, as much as possible.

“I just wanted to show myself in pre-season and that’s it, pretty simple.

“I still had a contract here and I had unfinished business from last season.

"I came here to play football and so far so good.”

Klich has also provided a goalscoring edge from midfield and has netted thee league goals already this season.
