Arsenal are prepared to cash in on Aaron Ramsey in the January transfer window as they seek to control their wage bill, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Ramsey and Arsenal were positive about finding an agreement over a new contract throughout the summer, but the priorities at the club have changed in recent months.

The renewal of Mesut Ozil’s contract and the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on high salaries have sent the club’s wage bill to record levels.

Ramsey has been expecting to sign a new deal, but it has been claimed that the Gunners are not interested in the kind of wages the Wales international would command at the moment as they don’t have the spare resources.

There is no contract offer on his table at the moment, but it is widely expected that the player will not leave on a free transfer next summer after spending more than a decade at the club.

Arsenal are keen to earn a fee from the player’s departure and are prepared to listen to offers for him during the January transfer window.

It has been a major U-turn on the club’s part as Ramsey has been keen to stay and he was being touted as a future Arsenal captain.

The Gunners are also unlikely to do any incoming business in the January window as they are under pressure to bring down the wage bill.

It was already more than £200m before the summer arrivals of Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Stephan Lichtsteiner.
