Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has insisted that he was confident that he would eventually start scoring for Lyon.

Dembele went to war with Celtic in the summer to force a transfer and eventually got his wish when they decided to sell him to Lyon in the final hours of deadline day last month.

The Frenchman took some time to settle down at Lyon, but he has come out of a rough spell and scored a brace for the club on Wednesday night against Dijon to mark his first goals for the club.

Dembele admits that it was good to get his first goals for the club as they are the currency by which any striker in world football is judged.

The former Celtic man stressed that he was not allowing the lean spell to get to him and insisted that he had the confidence in himself that he would eventually hit the ground running at Lyon.

Dembele was quoted as saying by French outlet MaxiFoot: “For a striker, it is always good to score.

“When I arrived here, I said I would need time. We must work together to be effective.

“I was not thinking about it much and just wanted to give everything I had.

“I had confidence in my ability and I knew the goals would come.”

Dembele won two Scottish Premierships during his time at Celtic but his spell ended in a bitter row with Brendan Rodgers on deadline day.

Celtic did not have time to replace Dembele, meaning they headed into the season one striker down.
