Former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has been whacked with a three-match ban after insulting match officals while on the touchline for Cruz Azul.

The Gers sacked the Portuguese tactician last year following a poor start to the campaign, but he was not unemployed for long and bounced back into management with Mexican side Cruz Azul.

Caixinha saw his Cruz Azul side win their Mexican cup clash against Club Tijuana 2-1, but he was sent off during the proceedings as he argued with officials.

He has been slapped with a three-match ban in the Mexican cup as a result.

The former Rangers manager currently has Cruz Azul sitting at the top of the Mexican Apertura standings with a three-point lead over second placed Club America.

Caixinha has enjoyed success in Mexican football and won the Liga MX Clausura in 2015 and the Copa MX Apertura in 2014, both with Santos Laguna.

Cruz Azul are next in action on Sunday when they take on Pachuca in a league fixture.

Rangers still have two of Caxinha's signings from Mexico on the books in the shape of Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera, but both are on loan back in Mexico at Necaxa and Santos Laguna, respectively.
