Tottenham Hotspur legend Micky Hazard has insisted that Barcelona are worried about playing Mauricio Pochettino’s side ahead of next week’s clash.

A bad start to their Champions League campaign in Italy, where they lost to Inter, means Tottenham are in need of a result against the Catalan giants next week.

Barcelona are coming to the English capital next week for a Champions League group game and are favourites to beat Tottenham, despite Spurs’ improvement in recent years.

Hazard doesn’t believe Tottenham’s qualification to the last 16 depends on beating Barcelona, but he insisted that they are more than capable of getting a result against the Blaugrana.

He stressed that the Catalan giants are equally worried about Tottenham and if Spurs continue to improve they are more than good enough to beat a team such as Barcelona, who are heavily dependent on Lionel Messi playing well.

The Spurs legend said on the Boys From White Hart Lane podcast: “Ultimately it’s the other two teams that we need to beat.

“Bad start against Inter, so we now have to beat them at home and PSV twice.

“But I think we are more than capable of beating Barcelona on our day. Do you think Barcelona are not frightened about us? They know we are a very good side.

“There are signs that we are rediscovering our form and if we do, Barcelona have got to watch out because we are not dependent on one man like Messi.”

Tottenham did beat eventual winners Real Madrid at Wembley in last season’s Champions League group stage.
