Wantaway Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has emerged as a target for Serie A giants AC Milan in the January transfer window.

Cahill has become a bit-part player at Chelsea this season under Maurizio Sarri and is ready to speak with the club to let him leave Stamford Bridge in January.

The club are yet to take any decisions on the defender’s future but he coped with criticism for his performance in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Derby County on Wednesday night.

The veteran centre-back may be unlikely to get many minutes in the Premier League and it has been claimed that he could have an escape route to Italy in the winter window.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, the Englishman has emerged as a target for AC Milan, who are looking to bring in a new centre-back during the January window.

Mattia Caldara’s injury has forced AC Milan into the market for another defender and the club are considering signing Cahill this winter as a cut-price option.

Chelsea defender David Luiz has also been on AC Milan’s radar, but Maurizio Sarri is expected to veto any move for the Brazilian, who has been one of his regular starters.

However, a move for Cahill could be very much on and the defender could welcome offers to leave Chelsea in January.
