Manchester City youngster Brahim Diaz is far from agreeing a new deal with the Citizens, it has been claimed, and Real Madrid are only one of a number of top European clubs who are looking to sign him in the summer.

The young Spaniard showed his ability on Thursday night when he scored a brace in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Fulham as they progressed to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

However, it was only his third appearance for the club this season and it has led to rumblings about his long-term future at the Etihad as he edges closer to the expiry of his contract.

His current deal runs out in the summer and Manchester City have been in talks over a new contract with his representatives in order to keep hold of the talented 19-year-old.

But according to Spanish TV programme El Chiringuito TV, an agreement is far from being found and a period of intense negotiations lies ahead.

Diaz has not been a part of a Premier League matchday squad this season and has sought assurances from the Manchester City hierarchy about getting regular minutes on the pitch.

The Premier League champions are aware that they could lose Diaz for a paltry compensation fee in the summer if they do not manage to convince him to sign a new deal.

Real Madrid are keeping a close watch on the negotiations, but they are just one the many European bigwigs who sense an opportunity to sign the talented Spaniard.
