The new contract of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur linked defender Joachim Andersen at Sampdoria does not contain a release clause.

The 22-year-old centre-back signed a new five-year deal with Sampdoria on Thursday, amidst talk of some of the biggest clubs in Europe wanting to sign him.

Manchester United and Tottenham have been keeping tabs on the Danish centre-back and even Juventus and Inter are interested in snaring him away from Sampdoria.

A January move seems unlikely now after he signed the new deal, but speculation over Andersen’s future at the club has continued to churn because of the nature of his fresh contract.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Sampdoria decided against keeping a release clause in his contract to encourage a bidding war for his services at the end of the season.

The Serie A club are aware that they could struggle to hold on to the Dane for too long because of the stature of the parties interested in signing him.

Sampdoria are expecting his suitors to knock on their door next summer and a bidding war could be triggered, which would escalate his transfer fee.

Andersen’s wages have been increased from €250,000 per year to €400,000 in his new deal.
