Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants Belgium to release Romelu Lukaku from the squad ahead of their two games during the international break.

Lukaku came on as a substitute against Manchester City on Sunday after recovering from a hamstring injury but the striker is yet to reach his peak fitness levels.

The striker has joined the Belgium squad for the two international games, but there are uncertainties on whether he will feature for the Red Devils during the break.

Robert Martinez wants to observe Lukaku before taking a call on his fitness, but the Manchester United manager has completely different ideas.

According to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, Mourinho would prefer to see Lukaku return to Manchester United and train, rest and recover under the watchful eye of his staff over the next fortnight.

However, Belgium have decided against releasing the striker at the moment and want to keep him under observation as he trains with his international team-mates.

The Belgium FA has made it clear that no one will be allowed to withdraw from the squad until at least Wednesday.

Manchester United don’t want to see a semi-fit Lukaku play for Belgium and risk aggravating his hamstring problem.
