Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes that Manuel Pellegrini put the Sky Blues on another level during his tenure as a manager and has backed him to do exactly the same at West Ham United.

The 65-year-old managed the Citizens from 2013 to 2016, winning the League Cup twice and the Premier League once during his tenure as the boss of the club.

He though left the club at the end of his contract in June 2016 to be replaced by Guardiola, with the 65-year-old being appointed the manager of West Ham this summer.

And as Guardiola's side prepare to face Pellegrini's present side, the Spaniard insists that his Chilean counterpart is an exceptional boss with an enviable resume.

“His career speaks for itself in terms of the quality", Guardiola said at a press conference.

"When you see the teams of Manuel Pellegrini, when you are blind you recognise his style.

"He put this team on another level. The way they played and created a style was impressive.

"He went to Real Madrid and made 96 points. It was good.

"Here he won the league and helped this club be where we are right now.

"He will do well at West Ham where there are many good supporters."

Manchester City are one of the three teams to lose yet in the league and will want to extend that run when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
