Marcus Antonsson insists that leaving Leeds United for Swedish side Malmo was not a step back, stressing that he is playing in the Europa League as well as the increasingly competitive Allsvenskan.

Leeds signed Antonsson from Kalmar in the summer of 2016, but sent him out on a season-long loan at Blackburn Rovers last season.

The striker impressed at Ewood Park, but was still shipped out by Leeds in the summer, departing permanently to return to his homeland with Malmo.

He has been in superb goalscoring form for the Swedish giants, with his goals playing a big part in the club reaching the group stage of the Europa League.

And Antonsson insists that leaving Leeds for Malmo was not taking a step down.

He told Kvallsposten: "I am very pleased with the move.

"I do not know that I have taken a step back in any way, on the contrary.

"Now I play in the Europa League and the Allsvenskan just gets better and better, and more attractive for us players", Antonsson added.

Antonsson helped Malmo to a finish of third in the Swedish top flight this season and is playing under former Leeds boss Uwe Rosler at the Himmelsblatt.
