Sunderland boss Jack Ross has stressed his team's desire to progress in the FA Cup and the EFL Trophy and insists the Black Cats are in a good place at present.

The Black Cats will have two cup games in the space of three days, with the FA Cup second round game against Walsall scheduled for Saturday, while there is an EFL Trophy clash to be played three days later against Notts County.

Being amongst goals so far this season, scoring as many as 39 in 19 league games, Ross insists that his team are confident about scoring and believe that they can do it in every game.

And the Sunderland boss thinks there is no reason why they cannot ensure progress in the two cup competitions they will be involved as he believes that it will allow his side to freshen up from the monotonous league season.

"We believe we will score every game.

"We are in a good place and it has been a collective effort", Ross said at a press conference.

"We want to progress in the cup competitions and it’s nice because there’s a bit of freshness about it."

The League One side qualified for the second round of the EFL Trophy by virtue of a win against Walsall.

They have been in a great run of form of late, not losing in their last 14 matches in all competitions.
