West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has urged his side to be clinical when they travel to St. James' Park to take on Newcastle United on Saturday.

Pellegrini’s side were thumped 4-0 by Manchester City on Saturday, but the performance was not as bad as the scoreline indicated.

West Ham had openings but failed to take them as Pep Guardiola’s side punished them with their clinical finishing.

Pellegrini pointed out that his side were not forceful enough against the Premier League leaders and that there is room for improvement in every department.

"We work in every week, it doesn’t matter against who, to improve our performance”, Pellegrini told a press conference ahead of West Ham’s clash against Newcastle.

"When we finish the game against Man City, they created six chances and scored four goals, we created six and didn’t score.

“There is room for improving everything."

Newcastle moved above West Ham on goal difference in the Premier League table after beating Burnley on Monday.

West Ham have a poor head to head record against Newcastle as the Hammers have beaten the Tyneside outfit just once in the last five meetings between the two sides, and will hope to change that come Saturday.
