Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is not expecting to leave the club until the end of the current season despite expected interest from Italy in the January window.

The 31-year-old Spaniard’s contract expires in the summer and with no news of him signing a new deal, there has been widespread speculation over his possible next club.

AC Milan have been trying to position themselves as Fabregas’ next destination and the club have reportedly been in touch with the entourage of the former Arsenal and Barcelona man.

Fabregas has denied being talks with any prospective clubs, but indicated that his future is very much on his mind and he could start conversations once he enters the final six months of his contract.

However, the Spaniard did indicate that he is angling towards staying at Chelsea for the rest of the season and leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Responding to questions over his future and possible contact with AC Milan, Fabregas was quoted as saying by Italian outlet Calciomercato.com: “I have not talked with anyone.

“It is obvious that if I don’t sign a new contract, from January I can agree [a pre-contract] with anyone and this probably will attract many clubs.

“For now, I can say yes [I will stay here until the summer].”

Chelsea could listen to offers for Fabregas in January in order to realise a fee from his departure.
