Pep Guardiola has insisted that Manchester City are ready to do everything possible to keep Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain target Brahim Diaz, but admits that the ultimate decision will rest on the player’s will.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is considered a bright prospect by Manchester City, but they are at risk of losing him at the end of the season.

His contract expires in the summer and Real Madrid and PSG are set to lock heads in order to snare him away from the Etihad for a paltry compensation fee at the end of the campaign.

Manchester City are eager to see him sign a new contract and his entourage have not ended the Premier League champions’ hopes, but the player is claimed to have made up his mind about moving to Spain.

Guardiola has stressed Manchester City’s willingness to hold onto the young Spaniard, but admits that the final decision will depend on what the player wants to do with his career.

He said in a press conference when asked about Diaz’s situation: “We want him to stay and extend his contract.

“We will do absolutely everything for him to stay here but it is in his hands.

“He has to decide.”

Diaz has made just three senior appearances for Manchester City this season.
