Rangers defender Jon Flanagan has revealed that Raheem Sterling is relentless on the training pitch, recalling his time with the current Manchester City star at Liverpool.

Flanagan, who played the entirety of Rangers’ 0-0 draw with Villarreal on Thursday, has already notched up 20 appearances in all competitions since arriving from Liverpool in the summer.

The defender has established himself as a key member of the squad under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox this term after struggling with injuries at Anfield since that memorable season in 2013/14.

Flanagan, who picked the best eleven of players he played with in his career for Rangers TV, looked back at his time with Sterling at Anfield and revealed that the winger was relentless in training, while being fantastic for the Reds.

The 25-year-old also joked about trying to always beat him in training and admitted that Sterling is doing a fantastic job for the Premier League champions now.

“I have gone with Sterling on the right”, Flanagan told Rangers TV while picking his top team.

“Raheem is relentless, I think, every day in training.

"I don’t think he was ever injured.

“And what he is doing now is fantastic and also when we played with him, when he was at Liverpool, he was fantastic for us.

“I used to try and just beat him, but yes, fantastic player and he has got to be in there.”

Despite narrowly missing out on the Premier League title with Liverpool in 2014 alongside Flanagan, Sterling lifted the trophy in 2018 after being a central figure for Manchester City during their record-breaking campaign.
