A section of the Manchester United squad have been bemused by Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Brazilian midfielder Fred this season, it has been claimed.

Manchester United signed the Brazil international from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer for a transfer fee of £52m, making him the fourth most expensive signing at Old Trafford.

He was only the big money player Manchester United signed before the start of the season, but the midfielder is yet to carve out a regular place for himself in the team.

Fred has started six of 14 Premier League games and Mourinho has preferred to field other options ahead of the Brazil international.

And according to the Times, a number of Manchester United players have been left surprised by the way Mourinho has not tried to find a place for Fred in the team regularly.

A section of the squad are confused about why Fred has spent most of his time at Manchester United on the bench despite the club spend big on him in the summer.

Mourinho’s relationship with the squad has deteriorated over the last week and he slammed Paul Pogba in the dressing room following his inept performance in the 2-2 draw at Southampton.

The Frenchman also retaliated and is claimed to have blamed the Manchester United manager’s tactics and his style of football.
