Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes that Premier League champions Manchester City are probably the best team in the world at this moment in time.

Pep Guardiola’s men made it six wins in a row in the Premier League following their 2-1 defeat of Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.

The visitors opted to rotate their squad during the midweek trip to Hertfordshire and still emerged victorious through goals from Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez before Abdoulaye Doucoure pulled a goal back in the 85th minute.

Despite dominating proceedings on their way to an inevitable victory, the defending champions were made to sweat towards the dying embers of the game as they resisted a late scare to come away with maximum points in the end.

Nicol, who won four league titles with Liverpool during his playing career, thinks that Manchester City are probably the best team in the world at the moment.

“They [Manchester City] are about as good a team as anywhere in Europe and in the world”, Nicol said on ESPN FC.

“Is there a side you don’t want to play ahead of them? The answer has to be ‘No’.

“And you can look at it the other way, yes they were put under pressure by Watford, but guess what, they still had somebody winning headers when it mattered, they still had somebody putting a challenge in when it mattered.

“These are the only things that we can question City [on] because as a football team, forget it.

"At the moment they're the best.”

Manchester City extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 15 games with the win over Watford and have secured 41 points out of a possible 45.
