Former Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough feels Rangers will look to sign a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window because of Alfredo Morelos’ discipline problem.

The 22-year old has scored nine goals in 14 league games and has helped the Gers to the top of the table, but has picked up five yellow cards and one red card already this season.

Morelos was sent off in Rangers’ opening game of the Scottish Premiership season and although he has bounced back to score a lot of goals, he has not been able to keep his temper in check.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard recently revealed that the club are hoping to sign another striker in January and Rough feels that Morelos’ poor disciplinary record has forced the issue.

“I think Rangers’ big worry is all the yellow cards he picks up”, Rough said on PLZ soccer.

“Eventually there's going to be a ban. He is going to have to sit out some games.

“That will be why they want a striker [in January].

“I think we all know [Kyle] Lafferty will score goals, but I don’t think he’ll score as many goals as Morelos."

Morelos has scored in each of his last seven league games for the Gers and will hope to break the Premiership record for scoring in eight successive games.

Rangers next take on Aberdeen in the Premiership tonight.
