Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair feels Olivier Giroud has to start for the Blues when they take on Manchester City on Saturday.

Giroud came off the bench against Wolves on Wednesday night, but couldn’t inspire his side to a comeback as they lost 2-1 at Molineux.

The Frenchman has scored just once for the Blues in the Premier League this season, but has combined well with Eden Hazard and Willian up front.

Sinclair feels Giroud’s ability to hold the ball up front will be crucial against a strong Manchester City side and he should start ahead of Alvaro Morata.

“I think Giroud has to start in that game because there's more chance of it [the ball] sticking”, Sinclair said on Chelsea TV.

“He is more able to get the team up the pitch.

“This game at the weekend is going to separate the men from the boys.

“There will be one v one battles all over the pitch and we've got to stand up or they will take us to the cleaners and it could be a cricket score.”

Chelsea had a total of 17 shots, but could find the back of the net only once against Wolves as they suffered their second defeat in the Premier League this season.

With Arsenal breathing down their neck in fifth, Chelsea will hope to bounce back against Pep Guardiola’s side come Saturday.
