Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has rejected the Man of the Match award after Liverpool’s 4-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday and feels James Milner deserves it instead.

Salah scored a hat-trick to help Liverpool climb above Manchester City in the Premier League table and they are the new leaders after the Citizens' loss at Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp opted to shake up his starting eleven and Milner slotted in as a right-back.

It was Milner’s 500th appearance in the Premier League and Salah explained that while he was happy with his hat-trick, Milner deserved the Man of the Match award instead for his achievement and performance against the Cherries.

"Scored three goals, went top of the table and kept a clean sheet. It was a fantastic result”, Salah told Sky Sports after the game.

“I enjoyed the last one the most. I was calm.

"I know everyone has high expectations for me, but the most important thing is to win each game and that we are top of the table.

"I have to congratulate him for his amazing career. He deserves it [the Man of the Match] today.

"I hope I have more games like this in my career. I hope we're going to win something together this season, but I will not take it."

Liverpool have now won five games in a row in the Premier League and last dropped points in early November against Arsenal.

Salah, meanwhile, is up to 10 goals for the Premier League season and is now joint-top in the goalscoring chart alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
