Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes Pablo Hernandez’s goalscoring record this season has been the highlight of his game.

Hernandez grabbed the all-important late winner at Bramall Lane as Leeds scored a crucial win over Sheffield United in the Yorkshire derby last weekend.

The Spaniard’s strike allowed Leeds to remain in the top two and kept them within a point of catching Championship leaders Norwich City after 20 league games.

Gray  highlighted Hernandez’s performances since he returned to the team after recovering from an injury in October and added that he is the main man when it comes to building attacks for Leeds.

The veteran Spaniard has scored four goals in his last five league appearances and the Leeds legend admits that has been an important part of his game this season for the Whites.

The former White said on LUTV: “He is a big player in the side.

“Especially since he has come back from injury, we are relying on him – to create, to get players round about the game and he makes all the players play, he brings them into the game.

“His goalscoring record this season is right up there.

"It’s not just his play – it is his finishing, he is getting in the box and he scored a couple of headers, which you don’t see.

“His all-round game is terrific right now.”

Hernandez has netted 22 goals and has bagged as many assists in 94 appearances for the Yorkshire giants.
