Former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson does not believe the Gunners are title contenders, despite Unai Emery's men returning to winning ways on Saturday by beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal drew 2-2 away at Manchester United in midweek Premier League action and Gunners boss Unai Emery has been lauded for the progress his side have made this term.

An astonishing bicycle kick from midfielder Lucas Torreira in the 83rd minute was enough to earn Arsenal three points against the Terriers and Emery's men now sit third.

But while ex-Arsenal defender Upson sees the Gunners firmly as a top four side, he thinks pushing for the title is beyond them.

He said on the BBC's Final Score programme: "They aren't title contenders for me yet.

"But they are top four material.

"They have kept the run going [with this win] and it is great for the morale.

"I think that [a top four finish] would be a great achievement this season."

Arsenal are next in Europa League action with a home clash against Qarabag, a game followed by a trip to Southampton on Sunday.

The Gunners then lock horns with north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup.
