Former Leeds United attacker Noel Whelan has dubbed Adam Forshaw "immense" and says his performance against QPR made it seem as if there were ten Forshaws on the pitch at Elland Road on Saturday.

Forshaw had a tough start to the season as he did not play a part in any of Leeds’ opening six games of the season, but the ex-Middlesbrough man has become an integral part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side in recent months, having started the last seven games in the Championship.

The 27-year old has been regularly trusted by Bielsa and Whelan believes that the midfielder was immense against QPR and oozes energy and aggression.

Whelan also feels the Forshaw’s ability to read the game and his work ethic are big additions to the team and were there to be seen in Leeds' 2-1 win over QPR.

“He has been brilliant, absolutely immense”, Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds following the game.

“The amount of anticipated blocks he got involved in, stepping in and taking the ball away from QPR; he just seemed to be everywhere.

“It was like there was ten Forshaws out there on the field sometimes.

“He's one of these players you love to have in your side because he gives you so much energy and aggression, he is so calm and composed on the ball, never gets fazed when there are bodies around him, always picks the right pass.

“His battling qualities were there to be seen.”

Bielsa’s side have opened up a five-point gap over Sheffield United, their nearest competitions for an automatic promotion spot, and are just a point behind Norwich City, who are currently top of the Championship table.
