Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue has indicated that there was a high level of pressure to win every week at Tottenham Hotspur.

Capoue left Tottenham for Watford in the summer of 2015 and has become an integral player for the Hornets as they have managed to impress in the Premier League since their promotion.

The Frenchman had a two-year spell with Spurs, but was not a regular in the team as he made a total of 36 appearances in two seasons.

Since moving to Watford, Capoue has made 115 appearances for the Hornets and has scored 12 goals in the process.

The 30-year old feels that the expectations were high at Tottenham and at Watford the emphasis is on progress, with the two clubs living in different worlds.

“When I was at Tottenham, it was completely different. It was about winning every game”, Capoue told the Times.

“Tottenham are a big club so they ask a lot, a lot, a lot.

“Here we make a step up every year.

“The club are buying good players every year, the team are growing up, the staff as well, the facilities.

“It is a different world but we know where we are, who we are and what we can achieve.

“Everyone in England, and in the world, talks about the top six in the Premier League, so we are always hungry and it is good for us to show against these teams that we have quality as well.”

The Hornets have dropped outside the top 10 for the first time this season following their defeat against Manchester City on Tuesday, and will hope to get back on track when they take on Everton at Goodison Park this evening.
