Former Rangers star Bob Malcolm has insisted that Alfredo Morelos can become an even better player in the future for the Light Blues if he can take the advice of the coaching staff at Ibrox on board.

Steven Gerrard’s men will be aiming to get back to winning ways when they face Rapid Vienna in a crucial Europa League Group G clash away from home on Thursday.

Rangers have dropped five points from their last two games in the Scottish Premiership after succumbing to a defeat and then a draw, against Aberdeen and Dundee respectively.

However, they are now in desperate need of a win against Rapid Vienna on Thursday if they are to secure their qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Morelos, who was sent off during the defeat to Aberdeen and served a suspension during the 1-1 draw with Dundee, is expected to return to the starting eleven against Rapid Vienna.

Malcolm, who started his senior career at Ibrox, insists that Morelos needs to make sure he learns and takes on board the messages from the coaching staff.

The former Gers star also added that he believes Gerrard will make at least a few changes and admitted he is hoping that Morelos makes a difference on the night.

“I would imagine Gerrard will bring players back in. Hopefully the ones he brings back in will do a job on Thursday”, Malcolm told the Herald.

“I hope Morelos makes a difference.

"He is a big player for Rangers, their top goalscorer.

"When he is on his A game he is a handful.

“Yes, at times he can sulk and struggle.

"But if he gets that out of his game he will be a top player in future.

“He is only a young kid. It is a steep learning curve for him at the moment.

"Steven and his coaching staff will be on his case. Hopefully he takes his advice on board.”

Morelos has netted 17 times for Rangers so far this season, while also serving three suspensions.
