Former Manchester United defender David May has insisted that Jose Mourinho’s men need to show their mean streak on the pitch and be nastier.

Ander Herrera has earned praise for adding a bit more bite to the Manchester United midfield and Marcos Rojo’s battling performances in recent games have caught the fancy of many fans.

May believes that there has not been enough of that at Old Trafford this season and insisted that despite the style of football Manchester City, Chelsea or Liverpool play, they are also physical sides who do get stuck into the opposition.

The former defender wants Manchester United to become more physical and nastier with their challenges as he believes the side are perceived to be too soft these days.

The ex-Manchester United man said on MUTV: “I see Chelsea the way they are playing, they are very physical, City are physical and Liverpool are.

“And I think, you know what, sometimes we are too soft. I’d rather get rattled into them.

“Whether it’s a booking or not, but just be nasty.

"I don’t think we are nasty enough.”

Mourinho has called for a few ‘mad dogs’ in his squad as he looks to recover from a poor start to the season for Manchester United, as they hunt a top four place.
