Former Celtic star Alan Rough is sure that the Bhoys are more than capable of getting the result they want against Red Bull Salzburg at Parkhead on Thursday in the Europa League.

Brendan Rodgers’ men need at least a draw against Group B leaders Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday, if they are to extend their involvement in the Europa League beyond the group stages this season.

The Scottish champions have enjoyed a stellar run of form in recent weeks and moved to the summit of the Scottish Premiership table with a thumping 5-1 win over at Kilmarnock at Parkhead during their last outing on Saturday.

However, the opposition on Thursday are expected to provide a bigger challenge for Celtic, especially considering the fact that they have won all of their games in Group B.

Despite the glowing reputation associated with the visitors so far this term, Rough is convinced that Celtic are more than capable of getting the desired result on home soil to take them through to the next round.

The former Scotland international admits that Red Bull Salzburg have been  impressive so far this season, but ultimately backed his former side to get the result they desperately need in the end.

“You just have to look at the group table, this team have been impressive from start to finish”, Rough said on PLZ Soccer.

“They are still shouting about they want to get through the whole group undefeated, which can be a sore one for Celtic.

“The domestic games that Celtic have been playing, they have been impressive, this is another level, this is another test for the players.

“But, with the home advantage and the supporters there, that have all been at these European nights, I would expect that Celtic should be good enough to get a draw in this game.”

Celtic suffered a 3-1 defeat during the reverse fixture in Salzburg back in October, despite taking an early lead through Odsonne Edouard in the 2nd minute of the game.
