Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has claimed that the Gers’ crucial Europa League clash against Rapid Vienna on Thursday will suit his team, despite their poor performances in recent games.

The Light Blues need nothing short of a win against Rapid Vienna on Thursday in Group G of the Europa League if they are to book their berth in the knockout stages of the competition.

Rangers were able to register an emphatic 3-1 win over the Austrian outfit during the reverse fixture at Ibrox back in October, but will be wary of the challenge their opponents could pose on home soil.

Furthermore, Gerrard’s men have dropped five points from their last two games in the Scottish Premiership after a defeat and a draw against Aberdeen and Dundee, respectively, and are in desperate need of a strong reaction on Thursday.

Despite their uncharacteristic performance during the last two outings, Gerrard claimed that the game against Rapid Vienna on Thursday will suit his team, especially considering that it is a 50-50 situation.

The former Liverpool captain also added that Rangers were far from being their true selves during the recent disappointments in the Premiership, but insisted that the game against Rapid Vienna will be a completely different affair.

“The last two performances, I don't think we have shown the true Rangers”, Gerrard said in a press conference ahead of the game against Rapid Vienna.

“What I would say, this is a completely different game and a different style of game.

“I think this game could suit us being more of a 50/50-type game, and we have handled ourselves well in those matches before.

“We have huge respect for our opponents and I think, like us, they were the underdogs in the group.”

Rangers are currently third in Group G with six points from their five games so far this season in the Europa League.
