Marcelo Bielsa has stressed the importance of Patrick Bamford scoring a hat-trick against for Leeds United Under-23s earlier this week.

Bamford and Izzy Brown were in the Leeds Under-23 team that scored an impressive 6-3 win over Burnley on Tuesday afternoon.

The Leeds striker, one of the most expensive signings in the club’s recent history, has been missing from first team action since picking up a knee injury in September.

The striker has been gradually building up his fitness and grabbed a hat-trick against Burnley for Leeds Under-23s.

Bielsa is happy to see the striker scoring as he feels it is important that he returned to goalscoring form as soon as he returned as that is the currency strikers deal in.

He admits that Bamford still short of match sharpness, but is ready to play for the first team.

Bielsa said in a press conference when asked about Bamford: “He scored three goals.

"For a number nine, it’s a very important thing.

“He is well and he is available for the team.

“Of course, to reach his previous level he needs more activity and more games, but he’s available to start or play as a substitute.”

Bamford’s return will boost Leeds United’s forward options as they embark on a busy festive period.
