Vienna police have warned Rangers fans that mulled wine is stronger than beer, ahead of the Gers' Europa League clash against Rapid Vienna this evening.

Steven Gerrard's men have travelled to Austria to lock horns with Rapid Vienna in a Europa League group game they must win to reach the last 32 of the competition.

They will be backed by passionate travelling fans, who are already enjoying all that Vienna has to offer.

And Vienna's police have been quick to remind Rangers fans who may want to enjoy one of the city's Christmas markets that mulled wine is of significantly higher strength than beer.

The police force took to Twitter to write: "Any plans for the evening?

"Consider one of the many international pubs all over the city, or have a traditional hot wine at one of our Christmas markets. Pay attention for pickpockets and please note: Hot wine is a lot stronger than Jaw Brew! 😉 #SCRRFC."

Rapid Vienna are unbeaten on home turf in the Europa League this season and have produced several impressive performances at the Allianz Stadion.

However, Gerrard's side have defied the odds so far this term in Europe and will be gunning for a famous victory which would ensure European football at Ibrox in the new year.
