Sunderland chairman Stewart Donald has confirmed that the Black Cats are in a position to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window and offered updates on Juan Sartori, Josh Maja and Lynden Gooch.

The Black Cats are currently in the race for promotion from League One and their fans have been given a fresh update on a number of concerns, including the club’s position to strengthen the squad in the quickly approaching January transfer window.




Donald took to Twitter as he confirmed that Sunderland are now in a position to rope-in reinforcements, if required, during the winter transfer window.

The Black Cats chairman also revealed encouraging signs on new deals for Gooch and Maja, after persistent rumours surrounding their futures at the club.
 


Donald also confirmed that Sunderland shareholder Sartori will remain with the club, despite rumours suggesting that he is preparing to leave the club to pursue his political ambitions.

Sartori, who purchased a 20 per cent stake in the club during the summer, had recently revealed that he is planning to contest in elections in Uruguay.

The Sunderland chairman concluded by revealing that the Stadium of Light will witness a sell-out crowd against Blackpool in the new year, while the game against Bradford City on Boxing Day is expected to fetch at least 35,000 in attendance.

Donald wrote: "Update for Sunderland fans questions.

"Juan staying. Josh and Lynden update soon but very encouraging.

"Over 35000 Boxing Day. Blackpool close to selling out.

"In a position to strengthen in January if needed.

"Oh and photograph taken of Charlie not holding a pint!!"
