Djurgarden sporting director Bosse Andersson has revealed he had an agreement with Leeds United to sign Marcus Antonsson in the summer.

After finding his chances to make an impact at Elland Road limited, the Swede returned to his homeland with Malmo and scored the goal that took his side to the Europa League last 32 on Thursday night at Besiktas.

However, the story could have been different as Andersson has revealed that Djurgarden had thrashed out an agreement with Leeds to sign the striker in the last transfer window.

The club even met Antonsson to discuss personal terms, but eventually missed out as the striker decided to sign for Uwe Rosler's Malmo.

Andersson lamented the fact that they missed out on signing the hitman from Leeds, especially as Djurgarden had the funds to take the deal over the line in the summer.

“He came to Sweden to meet us”, the deal-maker was quoted as saying by Swedish daily Expressen.

“We had an agreement with the club [Leeds], but two days later he signed for Malmo.

“It was a very hard blow for us.

"We had the resources to sign him.”

Antonsson has rekindled his touch in Sweden and has scored five goals in all competitions for the Malmo, including last night’s pivotal winner in Istanbul.
