Rangers academy chief Craig Mulholland insists that youngster Dapo Mebude sees a pathway into the first team at Ibrox, after he put pen to paper to a new contract.

The 17-year-old attacker is highly rated at Rangers and the club have convinced him to sign on a contract running until the summer of 2021.

Mulholland says the club are delighted that Mebude has signed and insists that the attacker can see there is an opportunity to progress all the way through to Steven Gerrard's first team.

The academy chief told the club's official site: "We are delighted to extend Dapo’s contract.

"He has made great progress in the last few years having been named in a first team squad and playing up a year at international level.

"It is only the start however, and Dapo recognises that we have now created a fantastic high performance environment here at Rangers which, with hard work, will allow him to maximise his talent.

"He also sees the opportunity which now exists for talented players at Rangers, and importantly has shown us the obsessive qualities we look for in young players to climb this new pathway."

Gerrard has not been shy when it comes to giving youngsters a chance since he took over at Rangers and the former Liverpool captain took several to the club's pre-season training camp in Spain.

The Rangers boss is also currently handing game time on a regular basis to 18-year-old winger Glenn Middleton, a player he promoted to the senior squad from the youth ranks.
