Liam Cooper has lauded Patrick Bamford after he fired Leeds United to a 1-0 win away at Bolton Wanderers to send the Whites to the top of the Championship.

Bamford picked up an injury when turning out for the Under-23s in September and only recently returned to the pitch when he netted a hat-trick in an Under-23 win over Burnley.

He was named on the bench at the University of Bolton Stadium, but introduced by Marcelo Bielsa to replace Kemar Roofe just after the hour mark, as Leeds toiled in tough conditions.

And Bamford came up with the goods, hitting a low shot in the 66th minute to give Leeds a 1-0 win.

Cooper, who is currently sidelined, is delighted for Bamford as he knows how hard the striker has worked to recover his fitness.

He wrote on Twitter: "BANG! Ugly and gutsy.. Always the best ones.. Travel safe everyone who made it..

"That man Patrick Bamford worked his nuts off to get back, buzzing for you mate.. MOT", Cooper added.

The win means Leeds have won five games on the spin and Whites left-back Tom Pearce was keen to salute the feat.

Pearce wrote: "The boys are on fire. 5 wins on the bounce, can’t wait to get back out there."

Bamford will hope to have done enough to earn a start when Bielsa picks his next Leeds team.
