Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says he thinks Ovie Ejaria has made a mistake in terminating his loan at the club to return to Liverpool.

Ejaria was on loan at Rangers for the season, but became unsettled and was keen to move back to Anfield.

Following talks between Rangers and Liverpool, the midfielder's loan was terminated and he has called time on his spell at Ibrox.

Gerrard is disappointed to see Ejaria move back to Liverpool and believes the youngster had an incredible chance in front of him in Glasgow.

But the Liverpool legend says he would never stand in the way of a player who does not want to be at Rangers.

Gerrard told a press conference, following Rangers' 1-0 win over Hamilton at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership: "Am I disappointed he's gone? Yes. Do I think it's the right decision? No, because I think he had an incredible opportunity here.

"But I'm never going to stand in a player's way who is not happy and who is not settled because I have people who are desperate to wear the shirt and who would run through brick walls to wear it."

Gerrard handed Ejaria regular game time during his spell at Ibrox and the player produced several notable performances, not least in Europe, where he helped the Gers reach the Europa League group stage.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will send him on a fresh loan in the new year.
