Rangers defender Gareth McAuley says that the level of competition is high in the Scottish Premiership and some of the games have been real battles on the pitch.

McAuley was released by West Brom in the summer and the 39-year old has slowly made his way into first-team contention under Steven Gerrard this season after a slow start to his career at Ibrox.

Having played in more than 200 games in the English top flight, McAuley feels the games in Scotland are more all action as teams do not line up to lose, which makes the clashes more exciting to watch.

“I like watching Scottish games because it’s all action there’s all stuff happening”, McAuley told Rangers TV in an interview.

“To be honest with you, in the Premier League we were playing not to lose a lot of games, so sometimes it’s hard to watch.

“But up here it’s all action and there’s stuff going on. It’s a good product to watch and I’m enjoying being in it.

“The standard I feel is good.

"Some of the games are battles.”

Rangers have been more consistent this season and have managed to compete with reigning champions Celtic so far.

The league has been much more open this season compared to previous years and the Gers will hope to push Celtic all the way.
