Former top flight striker Andy Gray is sure that Tottenham Hotspur can put massive pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool in the race for the league title in the coming weeks, especially with the two title rivals due to meet in early January.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men came from a goal behind to register an emphatic 6-2 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday to move within two points of second-placed Manchester City.

Spurs were at their destructive best while going forward and put Marco Silva’s men to the sword under the lights on Merseyside to stake their claim in the race for the league title.

The north Londoners have managed to open up a five-point lead over Chelsea, who lost to Leicester City on Saturday, and are now just two points behind defending champions Manchester City.

Gray, who has represented a number of clubs in England during his playing career, thinks that Tottenham can put massive pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool by the turn of the year.

The former Scotland international also admitted that Spurs have a favourable run of fixtures ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Liverpool on 3rd January.

“Of course they are [capable of putting pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool]. 42 points, it’s the best start they have ever had”, Gray said on beIN Sports Soccer Sunday after the game.

“You talked about the games coming up, Bournemouth and Wolves, both at home, next two games coming up, Cardiff away [from home].

“Those are three games, without being presumptuous, they should win. So that keeps the pressure on the others.

“And of course, then the day they play Cardiff, two days later Manchester City have to play Liverpool, so something has got to give in that game.

“So their idea now is to keep winning, they are going to play before them on the 1st January, Man City and Liverpool don’t play until the 3rd I think it is.

“So they could close the gap even more and that puts massive pressure on the other two ahead of them.”

Tottenham will take heart from the scintillating display they produced against Everton on Sunday as they aim to register a fifth straight win in the Premier League on Boxing Day against Bournemouth.
