Celtic defender Filip Benkovic has admitted the Bhoys must behave like professionals on the training pitch on Christmas Day.

Benkovic, who joined Celtic on a season-long deal from Leicester City in the summer, is still only getting his first taste of rigorous festive season schedule in Scotland.

The Croatian played the entirety of the 3-0 win over Dundee on Saturday and is poised to make an appearance again during Celtic’s trip to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Boxing Day.

Despite the celebratory mood surrounding the occasion, Benkovic admits that it is hardly the same for any footballer, who is expected to focus on the training pitch at this time of the year.

Benkovic stressed the importance of behaving like a professional during Christmas Day and admitted he will attend church in the morning, but also reiterated that training will take place like any other day of the season.

“We are professionals and we must act like professionals”, Benkovic told Celtic View.

“It’s difficult, but football is like that. Football does not ask you if it’s Christmas.

“I still try to go to Mass in the morning, but that day will be the same training as any other day.”

Benkovic has already notched up 22 appearances in all competitions for Celtic, while also scoring against the likes of Hearts and Dundee in the Premiership.
