Etihad Trip Is Free Hit For Us, Pressure All On Man City – Former Liverpool Star

Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb feels all the pressure is now on Manchester City after the Reds' good run of late that has seen them open up a seven-point lead over the Citizens.

Liverpool eased to a 4-0 win against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, while Manchester City lost their second game on the trot, against Leicester City, and subsequently slipped below Tottenham Hotspur in the league table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side face a tough challenge against Arsenal before travelling to the Etihad, but Babb insists the points gap and the run of form means the clash against Manchester City is a free hit for Liverpool.

“It's a free hit for us”, Babb said on LFC TV after the win over Newcastle.

“The pressure is now totally on them in that game. They have to perform and they have to make a statement.

“There's no better team to go to the Etihad and get a result. We've done it last season."

Liverpool and Manchester City played out a 0-0 draw when the two sides squared off at Anfield in early October.

Pep Guardiola’s side have not beaten the Reds in their last four attempts in all competitions, and need a result to close the gap when the two sides meet next Thursday.
