Former Celtic star Kris Commons has admitted he feels sorry for Mikey Johnston, after he was left isolated in the Bhoys' 1-0 defeat at Rangers.

Steven Gerrard's men dominated Celtic at Ibrox and only heroics from Craig Gordon prevented the Bhoys from having to leave the ground on the end of a heavy defeat.

Brendan Rodgers started with Johnston up top as Odsonne Edouard took a spot on the bench.

Rodgers brought Johnston off and sent Edouard on in the 60th minute mark as he looked for Celtic to try and work their way back into the derby encounter.

And Commons admits he felt sorry for the Celtic youngster, who was forced to watch on as Rangers bombarded the Bhoys defence.

"I felt sorry for Mikey Johnston, just to pick up on him today", Commons said on Sky Sports Football after the game.

"He was isolated and almost like a spectactor at times, just watching wave after wave of Rangers attacks", he added.

Celtic now head off on a winter break, with Rodgers to take his squad to Dubai to recharge their batteries ahead of the second half of the season, which they will start level on points with rivals Rangers.
