Former Celtic midfielder Lubomir Moravcik believes Hoops target Vakoun Issouf Bayo would be a great signing for the club, and can emulate Moussa Dembele.

Celtic have been heavily linked with Bayo and are reportedly hoping to sign the Ivory Coast international in the January transfer window.

Bayo has been in scintillating form for Slovakian side Dunajska Streda, and has scored 10 times in 15 appearances in the league so far this season.

Celtic had a summer transfer window to forget and have paid the price with a lacklustre campaign in the Scottish Premiership.

Leigh Griffiths’ absence due to off the field issues and Odsonne Edouard’s failure to recover from an injury forced Brendan Rodgers to go with 19-year old Mikey Johnston up front against Rangers on Saturday, a game that Celtic eventually lost 1-0.

Moravcik believes that Bayo would be a good signing and can go on to emulate Dembele, who had a successful spell at Parkhead before moving to Lyon in the summer transfer window of 2018.

"When Moussa Dembele came to Celtic he was nobody", Moravcik was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

"After two years he moved to Lyon for £20m.

“I think Bayo can do the same – come from nowhere, play well at Celtic and then move on to a top club in England or elsewhere in Europe."

Bayo has played 32 times for Dunajska Streda after joining in 2018, and has scored 22 goals.
