Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Alexandre Lacazette must always start for the Gunners when he is fit and available.

Lacazette scored in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Fulham at the Emirates on New Year's Day and there were audible boos directed towards Unai Emery when the Frenchman was substituted after 75 minutes.

The forward has made 13 Premier League starts for the club this season and is yet to be one of the first names on Emery’s team-sheet, despite scoring seven Premier League goals.

The Arsenal boss has indicated that he won’t change his plans regarding Lacazette, despite fan reaction, but Pires believes the striker must be one of the certain starters at Arsenal.

The Gunners legend has been impressed with what Lacazette offers to the Arsenal team and feels his game is suited to how the club want to play.

He believes when he is fit and available, the Frenchman must be one of the first names in the starting eleven.

Pires was quoted as saying by L’Equipe: “He is really interesting for the team.

“He is a good point of support and his performances are always good.

“The good thing with Alex is that he never seems in doubt. He knows his strengths and his qualities.

“And he completely matches our game.

“If he is always available, he has to play. It is simple.”

Lacazette has netted 26 goals in 64 appearances for Arsenal since joining the club in 2017.
