Bournemouth have agreed to let Jermain Defoe join Rangers on an 18-month loan deal, according to Sky Sports News.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been keen to increase his attacking options and has zeroed in on former England striker Defoe.

The 36-year-old has struggled for playing time at Dean Court this term, clocking just 21 minutes of football in the Premier League.

He now looks set to continue his career in Scotland at Rangers, with Bournemouth having agreed to a deal which would see Defoe at Ibrox until the summer of 2020.

The loan agreement would contain two options for Bournemouth to recall Defoe.

The Cherries could bring Defoe back either in the summer of 2019 or the January window in 2020.

Gerrard's Rangers are currently on a winter break and headed into the pause sitting level on points at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with rivals Celtic.

The Gers will hope the arrival of Defoe can provide a boost heading into the second half of the campaign.
