Steven Gerrard has hailed Rangers' signing of Steven Davis, who he thinks is another leader to slot into the dressing room.

Rangers have completed the capture of the midfielder on a six-month loan deal from Premier League outfit Southampton.

He follows striker Jermain Defoe in through the door at Ibrox and Gerrard is pleased to welcome the Northern Ireland international to the club.

Gerrard believes that Davis, who played for Rangers from 2008 until 2012, knows the demands which come with wearing a light blue shirt.

And Gerrard also feels that Davis is a leader, adding to the other leaders already in the dressing room at the club.

Gerrard told the club's official site: "Steven is yet another fantastic addition to our squad, we are delighted to welcome him back to the club.

"He is vastly experienced at both club and international level and knows the club, the fans and the demands that come with wearing the Rangers jersey very well.

"He has previously captained the club and been captain for his country and Southampton, so we welcome yet another leader into our dressing room", he added.

It remains to be seen if Rangers will make further additions to their squad over the course of this month's transfer window as they bid to overhaul Celtic and lift the Scottish Premiership title.
