Derby County midfielder Duane Holmes has admitted it is not easy getting into the Rams starting line-up with the players performing consistently, but is hopeful of more regular playing time after his performance against Southampton in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Holmes picked up the man of the match award for Derby as they came from two goals down to finish the game 2-2 and subsequently earn a third round replay against Southampton.

The 24-year old has managed just three starts in the Championship this season for Derby, but his performance against Southampton has raised eyebrows.

The Rams take on Leeds United in their next game, in the Championship on Friday, and Holmes is hopeful of featuring after impressing in the FA Cup.

“Obviously everyone wants to play but it’s a talented squad and it’s all about the team”, Holmes said on Rams TV.

“When the team’s winning and playing well then you’ve got to wait for your chance.

“But hopefully I’m in the manager’s eye now.”

Frank Lampard’s side are currently sixth in the Championship table and will hope to close the gap on the teams above them as the race for promotion intensifies.
