Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed he is thrilled to have Jermain Defoe at the club and is looking forward to integrating him into the squad.

The Gers had an impressive first half of the season and are currently level on points with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.

Despite an impressive season so far, the Light Blues were expected to sign a striker in the January transfer window to take the goalscoring burden off Alfredo Morelos, who is the club’s top scorer this season.

Defoe has signed an 18-month loan deal with the Gers, and Gerrard, who played with him for England, believes the 36-year old is an extremely talented striker.

“I’m delighted to be able to welcome Jermain to Rangers”, Gerrard told Rangers’ official website.

“He is an exceptionally talented striker and vastly experienced footballer who has scored goals at every club he has played for.

“He will be a great addition to our dressing room and we look forward to integrating him into the squad whilst we work in Tenerife over the next week.”

The Rangers squad are currently in Tenerife for a warm-weather training camp, and will resume competitive action against Cowdenbeath in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup in less than two weeks’ time.
