Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri has claimed the Reds did not deserve to lose against Wolves during their FA Cup third round clash at Molineux on Monday night.

The Reds suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season when they were knocked out of the FA Cup after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Wolves in the third round clash.

Jurgen Klopp opted for a host of changes in the starting eleven that lost to Manchester City as he handed out a full senior debut to Rafael Camacho and Curtis Jones, while Ki-Jana Hoever also made an appearance after an injury to Dejan Lovren.

However, the fringe players failed to step up to the challenge against the spirited hosts as Liverpool suffered a demoralising defeat in the end.

Despite failing to help Liverpool qualify for the next round, Shaqiri claimed that his side did not deserve to lose against Wolves.

Shaqiri also conceded Liverpool were disappointed with the result, but insisted they did a commendable job and showed the right attitude throughout the game.

“Yes, of course we are disappointed after this game because we lost the game, first of all, and I think we did not deserve this result because we tried to play football”, Shaqiri said on LFC TV.

“We played good football normally but, in the first half they scored from the counter-attack and in the second half with a long-range shot, scored the second one.

“We tried to come back, we tried everything till the end, the attitude was here till the last minute and you cannot say anything to the team because we tried everything.

“We had obviously a lot of young players, new players in, who did not play for a long time and from that point on, I think we played very well.”

Shaqiri, who played the entirety of the defeat at Wolves, saw an effort pushed on to the woodwork when the score was still at 2-1.
