Brighton are considering a swoop for former Standard Liege winger Edmilson Junior, it has been claimed.

The 24-year-old winger joined Qatari side Al-Duhail last summer from Standard Liege, but he could be back in Europe during the winter transfer window.

A number of clubs in Belgium are interested in signing him this month and Gent, Antwerp and Anderlecht are also said to be considering a move for him in the coming weeks.

But Edmilson has also been attracting interest from the Premier League and it has been claimed Brighton are interested in taking him to England.

According to Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad, the Seagulls are assessing the possibility of signing the Belgian during the January transfer window as part of their plans to strengthen the squad.

Chris Hughton wants to add more guile to Brighton’s attack and Edmilson has emerged as a target for the club this month.

His current wages in Qatar make him expensive for Belgian clubs, but Brighton have the means to meet his salary demands.

However, his entourage have claimed that the player wants to stay in the Middle East for the moment.
